CHALLENGE

The Cime de la Bonette pass ranks as the third highest paved summit in Europe, surpassed only by Veleta and IRAM in the Sierra Nevada. The northern ascent unmistakably begins in Jausiers, while one might suggest that a glass ball set rolling from the summit’s southern side would eventually find its way to Nice.

An artificial loop, known as the Cime portion of Col de la Bonette, has been constructed near the pass’s end. Despite road signs in the vicinity proclaiming it to be the highest paved road in Europe, this claim does not hold true.

Nonetheless, the climb from Jausiers is nothing short of spectacular, offering a staggering 1,800 meters of vertical ascent amidst scenery that is utterly breathtaking.
