One the hardest Deux Mille climbs amongst so many tough ones, the Zillertaler Höhenstraße is a remarkable climb. It’s a remote climb, constructed in the 1960s, primarily for agricultural and forestry purposes. Its development was aimed at providing better access to the high mountain farms and pastures in the Zillertal region. Over time, it has evolved from a functional route into a popular tourist attraction.
Since its construction, the road has played a significant role in boosting local tourism. It opened up the region’s stunning landscapes to visitors, contributing to the growth of the tourism sector in the Zillertal area. The climb is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and has gained popularity amongst col-hunters due to its steep gradietns.
In general, most Austrian Deux Mille cols are tough and not for the faint-hearted.
